Key Aerodynamic Signatures
Look at the cockpit windows from the front. Notice how low they sit relative to the nose crown.
On conventional airliners, the flight deck sits right at the roofline. On the A380, because the entire upper deck runs the complete length of the fuselage, the flight deck was wedged midway between the main deck floor and upper deck floor to preserve passenger space on both levels.
Rotate the model to look along the leading edge of the wings. Notice the pronounced upward bow (dihedral) and the massive wing root chord (over 17 metres wide where the wing meets the fuselage).
That enormous 845 m² wing surface was originally oversized by Airbus engineers on purpose: it was designed to carry a stretched, 900-passenger A380-900 variant that was never built.
You are looking at wings built for an even bigger plane.
Airframe Dimensions & Geometry
Wing Geometry
79.75 Metres
Sweep angle of 33.5 degrees at 25% chord. Features distinctive wingtip fences rather than blended winglets to stay within the airport standard 80-metre gate box limit.
Fuselage Cross-Section
7.14m × 8.40m
An ovoid cross-section that maximizes floor space on both decks while sustaining 8.6 psi differential cabin pressurization throughout 43,000-foot cruising altitudes.
Vertical Stabilizer
24.09 Metres
Tall as an 8-story building. Constructed largely from lightweight carbon-fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP), housing the iconic tail camera pointing down over the spine.
